Why Entering the Transfer Portal Without a Plan Can Cost You Everything
The college football transfer portal is often sold as a fresh start, but for many athletes, it becomes a financial and academic nightmare.
In this Sports Club discussion, we break down the harsh realities players and families rarely hear before entering the portal: lost scholarships, academic ineligibility, unexpected out-of-pocket costs, and the dangerous assumption that “someone will pick you up.”
From Power Four exits to D2, D3, and NAIA realities, this conversation exposes how quickly NIL hype fades when GPA, injuries, playing time, and real money come into play. The message is clear: entering the portal without a plan, purpose, and proper representation can derail careers and lives.
This is a must-watch for athletes, parents, coaches, and anyone navigating today’s recruiting landscape.
