UCF’s offense is looking for answers after a 41-9 loss to Baylor, with offensive coordinator Steve Cooper focusing on the Knights’ execution as they prepare to face Kansas.
In a Wednesday report from UCF Sports on On3, Cooper addressed the offense’s difficulties against Baylor, including offensive-line issues, and discussed quarterback Alonza Barnett III returning to first-team practice.
The loss was a sharp reversal from UCF’s 39-31 double-overtime victory over BYU the previous week. Against Baylor, the Knights managed just nine points, leaving the offense with little margin for error as the schedule moves into November.
Barnett’s involvement in first-team practice is an encouraging development, but it does not by itself establish who will start against Kansas. The quarterback situation has been unsettled following injuries to Barnett and Keyone Jenkins.
For UCF, the immediate challenge is to give its quarterback more consistent protection and regain the offensive rhythm that helped produce the BYU upset. The Knights visit Kansas on Saturday, November 7.
