AJ Chung Makes It Look Easy

QB Trainer Baylin Trujillo Explains Why West Orange’s 2028 Star Is One of the Most Gifted Quarterbacks in His Class

At first glance, West Orange quarterback AJ Chung might not be the flashiest player on the field. But once the football leaves his hand, everything changes.

The Class of 2028 standout has become one of Central Florida’s most exciting quarterbacks, delivering highlight-reel throws while leading West Orange to an impressive 9-1 regular-season record.

For longtime quarterback trainer Baylin Trujillo, who has worked with some of the nation’s top young quarterbacks, what separates Chung isn’t just his incredible arm talent. It’s something far more valuable.

“His understanding and IQ of the game,” Trujillo explained during an exclusive conversation with ESOne. “He can make any throw.”

Trujillo has worked with several talented quarterbacks in the 2028 class, including Remy Jarman and Jackson Stecker, but Chung brings a unique combination of intelligence, accuracy, and natural throwing ability.

From unbelievable off-platform throws to attacking defenses vertically downfield, Chung continues to make difficult plays look routine.

“He’s not your flashy guy,” Trujillo said, describing a quarterback who lets his performance do the talking.

The Growth Behind the Highlights

While the spectacular throws grab attention, Trujillo believes Chung’s biggest improvement this season has been his decision-making.

As a sophomore in 2025, Chung threw for 2,936 yards and 41 touchdowns but also recorded 11 interceptions. Through 10 games in 2026, he has accumulated 2,389 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and just four interceptions, according to MaxPreps.

That improvement has helped West Orange become one of Central Florida’s stronger teams.

His performance against Jones High School was another example. Facing a talented Tigers defense, Chung delivered 346 passing yards and four touchdowns in a thrilling 25-24 victory.

For Trujillo, those performances show a young quarterback learning that he doesn’t have to force every play.

Chung has become more comfortable managing games, protecting the football, and trusting his ability to make the right throw when the opportunity presents itself.

A Ceiling That’s Still Rising

Despite his success, Trujillo believes Chung is nowhere near his finished product.

“He’s a competitor. He outworks everybody. He’s always willing to learn,” Trujillo said.

Trujillo acknowledged that Chung could benefit from adding more size before college, but he believes the quarterback’s talent, work ethic, and experience competing at a high level outweigh concerns about his physical appearance.

Having competed on varsity since his freshman season, Chung has already developed valuable experience against some of Florida’s toughest competition.

College programs are beginning to recognize that potential. According to 247Sports, Chung has collected 12 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Iowa State, Purdue, Cincinnati, and Syracuse.

For Trujillo, the message to college coaches is simple: Don’t judge this quarterback by the eye test alone.

“He’s just got the whole package, man,” Trujillo said.

And with another high school season remaining, Chung has time to become even more dangerous.

The highlight throws may bring the attention, but his intelligence, consistency, and ability to win football games are what could ultimately separate him from the rest of the 2028 quarterback class.
