Coach Lo Breaks Down Jaelyn Powell’s Journey Through Four Schools and His 1,000-Yard Season at Edgewater
In today’s high school football landscape, transferring from school to school can quickly create questions about an athlete’s character, commitment, and development. But for Edgewater running back Jaelyn Powell, longtime trainer Coach Lo believes people are missing the bigger picture.
It’s not about how many schools you’ve attended. It’s about finding the right fit.
“The right fit. It’s all about the right fit,” Coach Lo explained when discussing Powell’s journey.
Powell’s path has taken him through Jones, Bishop Moore, The First Academy, and now Edgewater High School. While outsiders may see multiple school changes as a red flag, Coach Lo sees a family making decisions based on opportunity, development, and putting Powell in the best position to succeed.
According to Coach Lo, finding the right program isn’t always just about football. It’s about the environment, academics, relationships, coaching, and ultimately the opportunity to earn a college scholarship.
Finding His Home at Edgewater
Now in his senior season with the Edgewater Eagles, Powell is letting his production speak for itself.
Through nine games, the Class of 2027 running back has rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns on 144 carries, averaging an impressive 7.1 yards per carry, according to MaxPreps.
Those numbers reflect the type of player Coach Lo has watched develop over the years.
Powell might not be the tallest running back or possess blazing 4.3 speed, but Coach Lo believes his combination of power, explosiveness, quickness, and decisiveness makes him difficult to stop.
He describes Powell as a hard-nosed, one-cut running back who attacks the hole without hesitation.
For Coach Lo, that’s what makes Powell special. He doesn’t need to dance around defenders or turn every carry into a highlight-reel moment. He’s comfortable getting downhill, absorbing contact, and keeping the chains moving.

What College Coaches Don’t See on Film
While the statistics are impressive, Coach Lo believes the most valuable part of Powell’s game goes beyond rushing yards and touchdowns.
It’s his mentality.
Coach Lo describes Powell as quiet, focused, disciplined, and someone who doesn’t get out of character. More importantly, he believes Powell carries an every-down mentality that college programs should value.
He emphasized Powell’s willingness to do the work both on and off the field and his determination to give everything he has when his number is called.
For a running back, durability and dependability can be just as valuable as speed. Coach Lo believes Powell understands that responsibility.
And when the game comes down to a critical fourth-and-one situation?
“He wants the ball,” Coach Lo said.
More Than Just a Transfer Story
With 1,000 rushing yards already behind him and 11 scholarship offers listed on his 247Sports recruiting profile, Powell continues building his case for the next level.
His journey hasn’t followed a traditional path, but Coach Lo believes every stop was part of finding an environment where his abilities could shine.
Four schools may be what people remember when discussing Jaelyn Powell’s high school career.
But if Coach Lo has anything to say about it, they’ll eventually remember something much more important.
The running back who kept working, found the right fit, and made every opportunity count.
