From Pop Warner to Two Lake Brantley Records, Jackson Stecher’s Journey Is Still Unfolding
Long before the college offers, recruiting rankings and national attention, Jackson Stecher was a young athlete playing running back and defensive back at Dr. Phillips Pop Warner.
Today, the Lake Brantley quarterback is putting his name in the school record books.
On October 30, Stecher delivered one of the biggest performances of his high school career, accounting for six total touchdowns, including five passing touchdowns, in a dominant 56-0 victory over Hagerty.
According to the Lake Brantley football program, the performance broke two school single-game records: most total touchdowns accounted for and most passing touchdowns.
For a junior with another high school season remaining, it’s an impressive milestone in a journey that began more than a decade ago.
Years of Development Behind the Success
Longtime quarterback trainer Baylin Trujillo remembers working with Stecher when he was just beginning elementary school.
“I started training Jackson when he was in about first grade,” Trujillo told ESOne. “He was just such a good athlete.”
Stecher’s father recognized his son’s natural arm strength and baseball background early on. But developing him into a quarterback required much more than simply having a strong arm.
Trujillo worked on turning his athletic ability into quarterback fundamentals, footwork, decision-making and an understanding of the position.
“Jackson Stecher is an absolute elite phenom,” Trujillo said. “He can do it with his legs, his arm.”
Before arriving at Lake Brantley, Stecher helped The Master’s Academy capture back-to-back Sunshine State Athletic Association championships in 2023 and 2024.
His transition to Lake Brantley brought tougher competition and new challenges. While the Patriots have experienced an up-and-down season, Stecher has continued showing why he’s considered a talented quarterback prospect in the 2028 class.
According to MaxPreps, Stecher threw for 2,316 yards and 20 touchdowns during his sophomore season. Through seven games with reported statistics in 2026, he had already recorded 1,894 passing yards and 14 touchdowns, even before his record-breaking performance against Hagerty.

Why Buffalo Made Sense
Despite receiving recruiting attention from major college programs, Stecher made the decision to commit to the University at Buffalo.
According to Trujillo, that decision wasn’t simply about the school name. It was about relationships, development and having an opportunity to compete.
Stecher built a relationship with Tony Tokarz while the quarterback coach was at Florida State. That connection continued when Tokarz became Buffalo’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
“It’s all about relationships,” Trujillo explained.
For Trujillo, the right situation can be more valuable than choosing a program based entirely on its reputation.
The opportunity to develop under a familiar coach and compete for playing time made Buffalo an attractive destination.
One More Season, More to Prove
What makes Stecher’s story interesting isn’t just the recruiting attention or championship experience. It’s that his journey is still developing.
His record-breaking performance against Hagerty showed what he’s capable of when everything comes together. And despite Lake Brantley’s 5-5 finish, Stecher gave the Patriots a memorable ending to their regular season.
For Trujillo, who has watched him grow from a young running back into a nationally recruited quarterback, the transformation has been years in the making.

But Stecher isn’t finished writing his high school story.
With his senior season still ahead, the Lake Brantley quarterback has another opportunity to sharpen his game, lead his team and continue building his legacy.
Jackson Stecher isn’t an overnight success. He’s more than a decade in the making, and with two school records already behind him, his next chapter could be his biggest yet.
